MONTHLY FAVOURITES.

Monthly Faves X June.

These aren’t a series of posts I’ll stick to month after month. I intend to write and update these posts on an as and when basis because quite frankly, I’m super, super predictable and my routine doesn’t tend to change all that much. It would be quite boring and repetitive for you to read the same thing over and over. But, if like this month, I branch out and try a few new things, I’ll be sure to do write up and review!

So… Feast your eyes on my monthly favourites X June! I hope you enjoy.

  1. The Guilty Feminist Podcast.

I cannot believe I have only just found this podcast. Simultaneously irreverent and thought provoking, Deborah Frances-White is a comic genius.

The podcast’s combination of humour and politics enables so many to educate themselves and has the potential to engage individuals who would otherwise be disinterested in any sort of conversation about feminism. Plus it’s really, really funny.

Listening to TGF is a combination of therapeutic talk, being in a feminist 101 class and all this whilst being able to drive or workout. It is the perfect balance of humour, self-education and therapy.

Every episode is centered on a different theme. Each host performs a short stand-up show, completes a challenge relevant to that weeks dedicated subject and then engages in a discussion around the topic with a featured guest.

Founded in 2015, Frances-White and co-host Sofie Hagen aimed to make feminism accessible to everyone. Hosting episodes and discussing relevant topics and most importantly, de-mystifying the stigma that currently surrounds feminism making it synonymous with man shaming and burning our bras.

  1. Vita Coco.

Coconut water is like marmite; you either love it, or you hate it. I’ll admit it is definitely an acquired taste, and much like my love for marmite, I also happen to loooove coconut water. It’s sweet, light, refreshing, super hydrating and tastes divine in smoothies!

Not only does it taste great, it is also jam packed with potassium, which is essential for heart health and muscle function. It has also been found that consuming coconut water after exercise can help improve you endurance and overall athletic performance. So next time you’ve been on a run, try rehydrating with a cold coconut brew. It contains carbohydrates, (in glucose form) electrolytes and potassium – all ingredients that can be found in commercial sports drinks, but has half the refined sugars and calories! Win win.

Vita Coco also sell coconut oil. Made from the fleshy part of coconuts, it is organic, completely unrefined and can be used for literally everything. Chocolate and coconut pancakes? Yep. Hair oil? Yep!

  1. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

Reading has always been one of my favourite past times. When living in London, my commute was around 40 minutes and instead of waiting for those rare moments of intermittent WIFI, I decided to put those 40 minutes to good use and get back to being a book worm. My desired genre would always be crime or psychological novels so Morgensterns’ The Night Circus was definitely an out of the norm choice. However, this book has easily become one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.

496 pages of endless magic, opportunities, enchantments, and wonder. I left this book feeling inspired. Each chapter is filled with descriptions of the impossible. Contortionists, illusionists, magicians and the most wildly creative scenarios and the ways in which Morgenstern’s words manage to bring them to life is pure literary perfection. It truly is one of the most extraordinary fictional books I’ve read*.

  1. BlanX.

This is a bit of a different one as BlanX did send me their new PRO whitening range, but as I’ve said before, I will always be extremely transparent, honest and would never promote a product I don’t genuinely use or appreciate. HOWEVER. I was presently surprised with BlanX.

I’ve always had a bit of a thing about teeth. My Nana gave me one piece of advice that I’ve never forgotten… Only agree to go out with a boy if he has nice teeth and nice nails (James you’re in the clear), and since having braces, I’ve made sure I reaaaaally look after my teeth.

I’ve used whitening toothpaste and the occasional whitening strip but have always found that it can make my teeth hyper-sensitive especially when eating ice cream or drinking hot coffee. And there is no way I’m going to drink coffee threw a straw. So when I gave BlanX a try, I had high expectations.

My fave one from the range was the Fresh White (the blue one) because it made my teeth quite literally, squeaky-clean. It was super minty and I honestly think my teeth looked whiter after about 4 days. I’m the kind of person who likes to finish a tube of toothpaste before starting a new one, so I’ll be using the remaining 2 tubes as soon as I’m done and can already tell I’ll most definitely be a returning customer!

Oh and all the products are peroxide free and vegan. Pearly white smiles for everyone.

  1. Youth Lab. Skincare.

I’ve actually dedicated an entire post to these particular products, because I was honestly blown-away with the results, but seeing as this post is about my monthly faves, I had to re-include it!

I reeeeeally dislike wearing makeup unless its for an occasion, I’d rather let my skin breathe and now that the weather is getting better, I’ll do anything to try and soak up some much needed vitamin D. However, I am really conscious of bad it has gotten recently, and regardless of what people say I know it’s bad.

I’ve tried so many different products  but I think the only thing that seems to be making a difference is Youth Lab. Really praying I’ve not jinxed it by writing this…

  1. Flatform Superga’s.

If you know me well, you’ll know I don’t do flat shoes. The only pair of flat shoes I own are gym trainers. Heeled boots, heeled sandals, flip-flops with a bit of a ‘heel’, you name it and I’ll probably have a version that gives me a bit of extra height. Being 5ft, I’ll take anything that’ll make my legs appear longer.

I’m all about combining comfort and fashion and I have been a victim of horrific blisters and that have literally left me crawling far too many times. As much as I say fashion > comfort, I think comfort wins. So, when I saw that Superga had a flatform range, it was inevitable I was going to invest in a pair.

Opting for ‘Taupe’ (because as my mum would say, it’ll go with more) I knew it would be the perfect neutral colour to complement all the colourful outfits I wear (95% of my wardrobe is black, white and navy).

I could not be more impressed with these!! They’re the perfect fit and are actually true to UK sizes. Now that summer is creeping in on us, I can already tell they’re going to be my go-to summer shoe. Ideal for city breaks when you know you’ll be doing lots of site seeing and walking!

If you’ve tried any of the above, let me know in the comments below or get in touch. I absolutely love hearing from you all!
