MYKONOS.

MYKONOS X OSTRACO SUITES.

Almost a year a go to the day, I visited the beautiful island of Mykonos, Greece. Looking back through my holiday photos and getting extremely nostalgic, I decided now would be as good a time as any, to write a travel review of the incredible holiday. So, here is my Mykonos review!

Belonging to the Cyclades islands, Mykonos (also known as the Ibiza of Greece) is known for is picturesque town, fantastic beaches and is an Instagammers paradise. White wash walls, blue and white building tops, cobbled streets, you name it and there’s an Instagram pic just waiting to be captured. Having seen it plastered across Pinterest the year before, I knew I was desperate to visit and see its beauty in real life.

I visited the island at the beginning of May, and after our 4 hour flight, headed straight to our accommodation, Ostraco Suites. The suites seemed like something out of a travel magazine and being established in 2011, it still had that new hotel feel.

After spending hours traipsing online, reading dozens of hotel reviews (and finding a really good deal at Ostraco) I was sold. And my word did it meet expectations – and then some! I was upgraded on arrival to a Superior room with a sea view because the room we booked wasn’t quite ready, and it screamed glamour and elegance. Safe to say I felt like a queen.

The interiors of the hotel were every bit as cosmopolitan as the island itself. Clean white walls, white furniture with mahogany accents – it was beautiful.

We also had a huge balcony which looked out over Mykonos town and had the most beautiful sea view, perfect for watching the sun go down.

Visiting at the start of the season meant we were the one of the only ones on site – perfect as it meant I could totally relax. The staff were amazing, going above and beyond to make us feel comfortable without being overbearing.

A delicious array of breakfast goodies was served every morning; cereals, pastries, fresh fruit, eggs, and of course, coffee. I chose the same spot every morning and spent time studying the map of the town and making plans for the day.

The pool area was idyllic with minimalist aesthetics and plenty of space for sun loungers and umbrellas – it was the perfect space to relax and absorb some much needed vitamin D after a day of exploring.

I wandered through the town, which was so gorgeous; cobbled streets filled with a mixture of traditional Greek shops, treasure coves filled with handmade jewellery and ice cream parlous galore.

The town really is as picturesque as it looks – and visiting just before peak season meant I could take my time to thoroughly explore each avenue.

Little Venice & The Windmills.

Arguably two of the top tourist sights in Mykonos, it’s definitely worth taking the time to check them out.

Little Venice is buzzing with traditional tiny Greek restaurants and bars, and if you go at sunset, you can bag yourself a front row seat to one of the most glorious sunsets. It’s also home to the town mascot, Petros the Pelican. Not quite what you expect to see whilst tucking into lunch, but it adds to the Greek ambiance nonetheless.

Another must is to rent out a quad bike for the day. Costing no more than €50.00 its an expense I was not going to skimp out on! I found so many hidden beaches, spectacular views and worked our way across the entirety of the island in one day, picking up lunch from local supermarkets and picnicking on the beaches. The hotel staff arranged the bike for us meaning it couldn’t have been easier.

Having saved a few pennies by buying lunch at supermarkets, I pulled out all the stops and decided to treat myself to a three-course meal at Mamalouka. Charming waiters and divine wine, it was the perfect way to end my little trip.

I had the most magical few days away, and I can’t recommend Ostraco Suites enough! If you’ve been to Mykonos and loved it as much as I did, let me know in the comments! It’s on my wish list to go back and explore more of the Greek Islands, so if you have any recommendations – please let me know!
